Distractor Beam (Work in Progress)

Thursday 7th October | 7 PM

William Stone is a very funny man. His awkward, disarming demeanor brings giggles to the crowd before he's even uttered a word, and when he does open his mouth, you're guaranteed a masterfully crafted set of "belly-laugh one-liners" ★★★★★ - VoiceMag.

Unlike many one-liner merchants, Stone cleverly weaves his into a narrative whole using callbacks, props, and seamless segways to break up the routine. A forty-five-minute set of unrelated gags could get tiresome, but Stone manages to produce a well-structured and polished performance each time.

Stone was a finalist in the 2018 BBC New Comedy Award and has appeared on BBC Radio 4, BBC Radio 3, and BBC 3. Check out his previous work here.

Brighton Grin Comedy Award - Heat 1

Wednesday 6th October I 8 PM

After over a month of build-up, The Brighton Grin Comedy Award splashes down at our seafront bar this week! The South Coast's most talented newcomers will battle it out in front of a panel of industry professionals for the UK's newest comedy prize.

As well as a £500 cash prize, the funniest comic will win a spot at Brighton Fringe’s flagship comedy night, The Late Show. The much-loved event played host to Romesh Ranganathan, Seann Walsh, Reginald D. Hunter, and Zoe Lyons earlier this year, and is well known for providing many of today’s stars with their big break.

After receiving a huge number of entries, the Otherplace team has whittled them down to the top forty performers, who will appear in four heats over the next month.

The first of these kicks off Wednesday at 8 PM, with an all-star comic cast on the judging panel. Joining us is top UK comic Zoey Lyons (Live at the Apollo, 8 Out Of 10 Cats), comedy coach and stand-up legend David James, BBC Radio Sussex’s Kathy Caton, and Otherplace Artistic Director Nicola Haydn.

...and much, much more!

As well as our one-off events, The Electric Arcade will continue to show its fantastic weekly comedy and film programme, which consists of Laughable (Monday at 8 PM), Electric Comedy (Friday & Saturday at 8:45 PM), and The Late Show (Friday & Saturday 10:30 PM).
